Not seeing…And not hearing?
Can this be prayer? How often we get before God after battling off
distractions and floating thoughts and images passing through our mind
and we see nothing and hear nothing. We have come through times of frustration in this world to hear you. We have made this time to be alone with you, answer us, oh Lord. Oh to hear His voice or have a vision; even a revelation; but there is none. We arrive at a place of waiting, so it seems. We have tried so hard and pressed in and we want, we long for something… anything… Why is it we never realize when we displace God,
even when we pray, is it because we think we’re doing a good thing? When you pray alone or with others and a deep silence pervades; like you’re compelled to be quiet; we feel it’s time for God to say something but alas for our desire, it is His peace He is imparting and entrance into the perfect; eternity. Our frustration with the peace God gives us in prayer usually leads us unappreciative; so we break with that peace of His presence and try to intercede or enter into praise… to just do or say something. The flesh refuses the presence of God for we sense and fear His awesome love… receive… receive… receive… We do anything but remain at His feet, just being with Him in this peace we seem not to be able to deal with, for He is trying to show us we need to know Him not in how we approach Him but in how He would have us approach Him… this is the hollow ground of our being… where He dwells. To get before God is always to let God lead… He
knows our need. This is usually our problem in that we have a ritual
that we feel comfortable with and choose not to alter it. Even for Him.
This is nothing to quibble about or be frightened of or run from or to change or to try to lend to. It should be the focal point of our prayer. “Your way, not mine” is a never ending cry, until we can no longer indulge in it… for we are there… Peace is that place that exceeds our understanding
and all our ritual of prayer. We stand in awe of you… as we understand your words
to us… “My peace I give you” Oh Lord, let us never take it for granted… In this silence we abound in your peace…
