Following…

Sometimes, knowing where we should be, is knowing where we shouldn’t be.
To obey is often met with a vagueness of hearing, an uncertainty of direction, a waiting in ambiguity, a wishful complacency, slow to act without reassurance and a hope of a repeated call or further confirmation.
Jesus could you repeat that?
Measuring where to go or what to do, all the questions, the why-fors and conditions of, are met in where we are… now.
Now just where are we?

Called to follow, means in essence leaving where we are physically, not just some Spiritual allusion, yet our flesh wants our excursion to be spiritual with no change or movement in the real world.
We explain it in small changes, in terms of where we now spend our Sunday mornings. We follow you Lord, to a place of a visit. This is what you mean; right Jesus, because this is what everyone else is doing.
Who hears the call?  Well they really don’t say that they are following… maybe because they’re not!
Jesus said follow me…
Did you hear it?
Well where are you?
In the throws of uncertainty, in resistance to His will by means of justification; we say we’re doing something, everyone else is doing what we do, meeting a hour or so a week, as an outright accepted alternative to following.
Men, not God pronounce alternatives.

Sin is disobedience… starting with the call to follow, itself.

In Christ the laws of the old covenant are not removed, they are exceeded by a higher law… love! We have met the motive in Jesus. He is perfect selfless sacrificial love.  We follow because we willfully want to… we are loved and secure in Him; we are no longer the same, we have another motive and it’s not our own. We follow because we are changed and where we are and what we do does not have the same value for us any longer. Jesus calls us to untangle us from the holds of the world; all of its values, its ideas and ideals, it’s distortions of His creation. But in essence the call removes us from the root of opposition to God and His will for us, our selfishness. Called to follow is a call to act in faith, which without we could not please Him. Called is not just letting go for a time or season it’s out right removal from a place and it’s motives for being there.

“The foxes have holes…” was not for a select few…
“If any man follow me, let him deny himself…” was not for a select few…
“None of you can be my disciples unless you give up everything you have!”
is not for a select few… all men are called to follow… few do.

Are you just doing something… or are you following?
We are to obey, but we are to do it willingly, cheerfully and with hearts filled with love toward those we serve.
Did you hear the call?
If you’re still holding onto the world and its pleasures, it may be time to reconsider. Not so much looking where you have to go or what you have to do, but being fully cognizant that where you are in your present state is not where God has called you to be. Don’t wish yourself out or try to pray yourself out.
Change comes by choice. You must choose… and act.
Just as Jesus chose you.
Can you defend your presence on earth?
God created you for a purpose… not yours… His.
So you have excuses and hide behind obscure and redefined scripture.
Men constantly point to scripture boasting this is the word of God… yet where is the example of love. Where are the selfless sacrificial lives that result from obedience to scripture? Is it law again, without love or is it just words without love. To love as Christ is to obey the entire scripture.
Jesus is the word of God… it is in Him and through Him and with Him, by following we endure and enter through the narrow gate… for He is that gate and He is the King of the eternal Kingdom.
Can you still hear?
Don’t attempt to leave something or some things behind as you scramble but renew your mind and escape the values of the world… or you shall perish with it.
When Jesus called the disciples they left everything, their homes, their jobs, their social life, their families, their place in the world, everything to follow.
This is our example, this is what Jesus demonstrated… this is how He lived and taught us all to live…
To follow is in moving toward Jesus, in how He demonstrated His life and in how He taught us to act. He is seated as King in the Kingdom. But to get there He laid down His life. How we follow begins in our selfless attitude toward others, our neighbors… as He did. We are to begin to sacrifice our time, our energy, our worth, in all our acts of service toward others, until we are ready to die for them. And we are to do this willingly and cheerfully. None of these actions of service will still have any meaning to Jesus or to our bearing in the Kingdom unless we do it all with love.

Can you still hear or are you still yielding to you flesh and trying to find the truth without acting on it, without choosing to change, learning without doing?
When you come to the judgment and Jesus inquires, “what did you do” what will you say?

The hour is late and the call remains the same… the question is will you?
